Trustico® supports business customers who need more than one person from their organization to have access to ordering and billing for SSL Certificates. A master ordering account can be set up to link multiple user profiles together, so departments such as Information Technology (IT) and accounts can both see all orders associated with the organization.
If you currently hold an individual account, it can be upgraded to a corporate account without any disruption to your existing orders. This page explains how multiple users are supported, why the ordering account is separate from the SSL Certificate tracking system, how prepaid credit behaves across linked users, and how to request a corporate account for your organization.
The Separation of Ordering and SSL Certificate Management
SSL Certificate licenses are managed through the Trustico® tracking system using the Certificate Authority (CA) Reference issued for each license. Anyone within your organization who holds the Certificate Authority (CA) Reference can manage the license itself, including reissues, validation method changes, and Certification Authority Authorization (CAA) status. Ordering and billing are handled separately because access to the SSL Certificate license should not be restricted by who holds the billing account. The Information Technology (IT) department may need to reissue an SSL Certificate at any time, and that work should not be blocked by needing the accounts department to log in first.
From a billing and ordering perspective, however, both departments often need visibility. The accounts department needs access to invoices and historical order records. The Information Technology (IT) department needs to see the orders they have placed and which SSL Certificates are tied to which license. A master ordering account is the structure that supports both. Learn About Ordering and Management 🔗
Upgrading an Individual Account to a Corporate Account
Most accounts begin as an individual account, set up for a single person to place orders and handle billing. This works well when one person manages everything, but it becomes limiting as soon as more than one person in an organization needs visibility of orders and invoices.
An existing individual account can be upgraded to a corporate account at any time. The upgrade links your profile into a master ordering account structure and allows additional users to be added, so that the billing and ordering side is no longer tied to a single person.
The upgrade is a manual process that Trustico® handles in the background. It does not affect anything you do at your end, and your existing orders and history remain intact throughout. Once complete, the account simply gains the ability to support multiple users.
The Master Ordering Account Structure
A master ordering account links multiple user profiles together under one organization. Each user keeps their own login and e-mail address, and each user sees all orders placed across the linked profiles when they log in. One user is designated as the main contact, and additional users are added as secondary users.
This means that when one department forwards a payment link to another, the resulting order remains visible to both departments through their respective logins. Orders do not become isolated to whichever user happened to complete payment.
The arrangement is permanent once it is set up. After the initial linking is complete, the structure handles future orders automatically. There is no need to repeat the request each time a new order is placed or a payment link is forwarded between departments.
Prepaid Credit on Linked Accounts
It is important to understand that prepaid credit behaves differently to order visibility. While all linked users can see the orders and invoices across the organization, prepaid credit remains attached to the individual user who added it.
Note : Prepaid credit is held against the specific user profile that added it, even on a linked corporate account. A balance added by one user is not automatically shared with the other linked users, so each user applies their own balance at the checkout.
This is worth keeping in mind when deciding which user should hold a prepaid balance. If a particular person or department is responsible for funding orders, the credit should be added under that user profile.
The Make Payment Later Option
The Make Payment Later option was introduced to address a specific problem that occurred before master ordering accounts became available. When the accounts department took over the payment step of an order placed by the Information Technology (IT) department, the order would shift to the accounts profile, and the original department would lose visibility of subsequent notifications.
The Make Payment Later option allows the original ordering department to complete the order details first, then have a payment link forwarded to whoever is responsible for payment, without losing control of the order itself. This remains useful for one-off orders. A master ordering account is the better long-term solution for organizations that order regularly across multiple departments.
Partners and Reseller Accounts
The arrangement described on this page relates to business and corporate customers. Partners and resellers are supported through a separate arrangement that provides the same multiple-user access, alongside partner pricing structures and different financial terms suited to operating at volume.
Multi-user corporate accounts may also be granted additional financial conditions under arrangement, or as otherwise agreed. These can be discussed directly with Trustico® based on your ordering volume and requirements.
If you intend to provide SSL Certificates to your own customers rather than secure your own websites, the partner route is the appropriate one. Find Out More About Our Partner Service 🔗
Requesting a Corporate Account
Business customers can request a corporate account, or the upgrade of an existing individual account, by contacting Trustico® directly. The request should include the organization name, the e-mail address that should be set as the main contact, and the e-mail addresses of any additional users who should be added as secondary users.
Once the request is received, Trustico® will link any existing user profiles together and confirm the arrangement with the main contact. The setup is completed once and applies to all future orders placed across any of the linked profiles. Find Out More About Contacting Trustico® 🔗
